My Bio

I’m Kamala, I’m an End of
Life of Doula
I’m Kamala, an End-of-Life Doula.
Kamala is the founder of a private consulting practice, Peaceful Passage Guide, in San Francisco, CA.
My Background
As a psychiatric and medical social worker (LCSW, retired) for over twenty-three years, I worked cross-culturally and with multi-faith populations across Northern California and in Santa Fe, NM. In my work with the Veterans Administration, I had early opportunities to help shape hospice care policy and practice at both the community and national levels. In recent years, I’ve completed several trainings with INELDA (the International End-of-Life Doula Association), and I’m currently enrolled in their Certification Program for End-of-Life Doulas. I also serve as a volunteer with a hospice palliative care living center.
My Philosophy
Having come from a significant background in medicine and mental health, I’ve experienced firsthand and understand both the strengths and limitations of our healthcare system.
I have become an End-of-Life Doula because I am committed to adding value and bridging the gaps that currently exist, especially in end-of-life care. I approach End-of-Life Doula work as a calling, and I share a simple philosophy from the teacher Ram Dass, who says, “we’re all just walking each other home.” To me, this reflects the idea that life is a shared journey where compassion, support, and human connection guide us through our experiences.
Hospice providers focus primarily on medical care and may not have the capacity to provide extended emotional and relational support. As awareness of death doulas grows, families are increasingly seeking guidance that complements existing medical services. I believe that the services provided by End-of-Life Doulas meet this real and expanding need. As a Peaceful Passage Guide, I endeavor to offer structured, compassionate support that improves the end-of-life experience and affirms to individuals and families that they are not alone.
Outside of my doula work, I enjoy fun times and music with my large extended family, nature hikes near the ocean, reading poetry, and daily meditation and therapeutic yoga practices.
I would be honored to guide and accompany you and your family through one of the most powerful and transformative stages of our lives.
